DAY #27

by Michael Davis on July 27, 2021

“Frodo began to feel restless, and the old paths seemed too well-trodden.  He looked at the maps, and wondered what lay beyond their edges…”  J.R.R. Tolkien – The Lord of the Rings

What if God has more for you than what you are currently experiencing, would you want in on that?  If God had more for you to see, would you want to see it? If God wanted you to go somewhere to be part of His work, would you want to go there?

I’d love to tell you that with each of these questions I’d answer with a passionate and resounding ‘YES!’  But if I’m being honest, it would be more of a tempered ‘I think so?’  I’d want to say yes, but I know saying yes would cost me something.  Of course there would be change.  Most likely saying ‘yes’ to God would also require me saying ‘no’ to me, specifically what my plans were.  I like to think of myself as a ‘yes man’ to God but if my history tells me anything, I’m better at saying ‘Well, I’m not sure if that’s really the LORD inviting me into that.

I don’t know what God has for you, and I’m not even always sure what God has for me, but there is one thing I do know.  There is one thing that this season of fasting has been teaching me – GOD HAS MORE

And the more that God has for me is not necessarily a project or task to accomplish.  The more that God has is not a heavenly to-do-list.  The more that God has for me… the more that God has for you is MORE OF GOD.  And that to me is what is most frightening.

Give me a job, a task, or a to-do-list and I’m good with that.  Give me a goal to shoot for or ask me to build something, I’m all over that.  But tell me that God wants me to stop ‘doing’ and start ‘being’ with Him, well, that is much harder.  But here’s the thing – the adventure I crave beyond my current borders will only be found in my ability and willingness to sit and be with the Author of the adventure.

O LORD, help us see that what we crave… that what we need more than anything is simply MORE OF YOU!

“Come close to God, and God will come close to you.” James 4:8 (NLT)
