DAY #26

by Michael Davis on July 26, 2021

“What God can do through a person who’s willing to act is limitless.”  Erwin McManus

Fast forward to the end of your life.  Clearly, we don’t know when that will be, but we do know there will be an end at some point.  I’m guessing whenever that endpoint comes for each of us, we’ll all look back at what our life was.  And I’m guessing not one of us wants to look back on a life that was and have a lot of ‘what if’ moments.

“What if’ moments are the worst.  It’s those moments where you wonder what might have happened if you hadn’t gone left when you sensed that God was calling you to go right.  It’s those moments where you wonder what might have happened if you had walked on the water when Jesus was inviting you to step outside the boat.  I don’t know when my end will come, but I do know this – I’ll be bummed if I’m left with a lot of ‘what if’ moments – and I’m guessing you will be too.

The antidote for ‘what if’ is ‘here I am.’  It’s not complicated but unfortunately, we make what God is wanting us to be part of complicated.  “I am not ready.”  “I don’t know what to do.”  “I am not sure what to say.”  “I don’t know how it will all turn out.”  “I am not sure how it’s possible.”  The common denominator here is ‘I’ – ‘I’ is at the beginning of each sentence.  Typically, sentences that begin with ‘I’ usually end in ‘what if.’

Maybe it’s time we allow God to rewrite the sentence for us – He is ready… He knows what to do… He knows what to say… He knows how it will all turn out… He knows it’s possible.  Sentences that begin with God will compel us to simply say ‘here I am.’

I don’t know all that God will invite you into today, but I do know this – as you declare ‘here I am' you won’t ever have to wonder ‘what if.’  I am convinced that God has great things for you and me to see Him do today.  Would you join me today {don’t worry about tomorrow}, but join me today in simply saying ‘here I am.’  Let’s turn ‘what if’ into stories of all that God can and will do through the lives of those willing to say ‘here I am.’

Then I heard the Lord asking, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?”  I said, “Here I am. Send me.”  Isaiah 6:8 (NLT)
