DAY #25

by Michael Davis on July 25, 2021

“Culture is putting out the light in men and women’s souls.”  A.W. Tozer

Wonder.  Astonishment.  Awe.

Would you use those words to describe your response to who God is?  Would you use those adjectives to describe how you relate to God?  I’m being honest, I’m not sure I would.  I want to, but I’d be lying if I said I was walking around in a constant state of ‘wonder, astonishment, and awe.’  Why is this?  One would think that if we were to dwell on the realities of who God is, what God is like, and all that God has done, we’d be in a constant state of having our ‘minds blown.’

I’ve been to Disney World many times.  I’ve been as a young child as well as an adult.  One of my greatest trips to Disney World was when I got to go with my kids for the first time.  When they entered the Magic Kingdom, well, it was almost as if they were catching a glimpse of heaven.  It wasn’t just the smiles on their faces, it was a sense of ‘wonder’ that they had as they were walking around the Magic Kingdom getting to hang with Mickey Mouse and his buddies.

Maybe my problem… maybe our problem is that we think we’ve seen it all before.  Not much left to be in awe over.  After all, billionaires are now taking joy rides into outer space, and to be honest, after two minutes of watching the most recent trip I was somewhat bored and unimpressed.

A return to wonder, astonishment and awe will not happen apart from the very thing we’re doing now – fasting and praying.  The more I’m around God in prayer, the ‘wow’ factor is growing.  The more time I devote to being with God in His Word, I’m not only amazed at what God has done, but all that He has promised to do in the days ahead.  And the more time I give to the mission of God, I’m overwhelmed by the power of God to transform lives.

I’m praying for you and I’d ask that you pray for me.  Let’s be praying that where wonder, astonishment, and awe are lacking we’d find them again in the beauty of our God.  That we’d rediscover afresh just how awesome it is that we get to walk with the King of the Universe every moment, every day.

“Let the whole world fear the Lord, and let everyone stand in awe of him.” Psalm 33:8 (NLT)
