"Invictus" tells the true story of Nelson Mandela's early presidency in post-apartheid South Africa. The film follows Mandela, portrayed by Morgan Freeman, as he seeks to unite the divided nation through the universal language of sports. Seeing an opportunity for national unity, Mandela supports the South African rugby team, the Springboks, who are led by captain François Pienaar, played by Matt Damon. Against the odds, the underdog team makes an inspiring run in the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
Following the film, we will have a discussion based on the Biblical and theological implications and undertones of the film.
