In the Old Testament, the temple was the geographical point where heaven and earth collided. It was a sacred space where the LORD of heaven chose to make His presence known on earth. It was the place where Israel gathered to hear from God and the place from which Israel was to carry the light of God to the nations. The temple was the exact point on earth where heaven could be felt!
But now, because of what Jesus Christ has done, the New Testament tells us that WE are the temple of the Lord! For instance, in 1 Corinthians 3:16, Paul says:
“Don't you know that you, yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in your midst?”
Do you see what this means? Can you feel how radical this point really is?
If you are a Christian, then you are the exact point where heaven and earth collide. You are a holy sanctuary that houses the Spirit of God! You are the one who stands between two worlds, with one foot on this cursed, fallen earth and another firmly planted in heaven.
That means that you may be the only access to heaven for someone else. That means that God’s power has chosen to reside in you and that He wants to reach the people around you by displaying His power in you. It means that you are a sacred and holy space that God is pleased to dwell within. You are a bright light in a dark world that is meant to reach the nations.
