PRAYER GOT ME HERE

by Michael Davis on January 15, 2019

Someone has been praying for you. I don’t know who. You might not even know who, but someone has been praying for you. How do I know this to be true? Let me answer that question with a question. Why are you reading these words? Maybe you saw a link on Facebook or Instagram. Why did you willingly click on a link that you knew would take you to a blog about prayer?

Let’s be honest, you could be reading or watching so many other things on the world wide web, but for some reason, you took time to read a blog on prayer. I believe the reason you're even reading these words right now answers the question of how I know someone has been praying for you.

I believe God answers prayer. I believe God moves in response to the prayers of His people. And I believe somewhere along the line, whether recently or a while back, someone prayed that you’d be curious about God and that your curiosity would turn into a desire to know God and that your desire would lead you to begin a relationship with God.

Maybe you know that someone or maybe you don’t. Either way, someone has been praying for you. The evidence is that you’re here.

God moved in response to prayers that have been prayed for you. Someone in your life not only cared enough about you to take your name to heaven, but someone believed enough in God to trust that He would move in response to their prayers – and He has.

Many people have prayed for me, but none more than my mom and dad. If it were not for their faithful prayers, along with many others, I’m fully confident that I would care about only one thing – me. If it were not for people faithfully praying that God would soften my heart and move in my life, I’m fully confident that I’d currently be lost.

How amazing and humbling to know that God moves in response to prayer! I once thought prayer to be just a religious activity, but now I see that prayer is a gift from God for us. And the awesome thing about prayer is that we can re-gift it towards those around us. One of the greatest gifts we can give each other is prayer. This is not just a nice sentiment, it’s biblical. Consider what the Apostle Paul instructed the church in Ephesus to do –

“Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.” Ephesians 6:18 (NLT)

Prayer has gotten me to where I am today, and I’m fully confident that it will be the prayers of those around me that will continue to move me forward.

Who might you, and we as a community, move forward with God in prayer? Is it a family member? A co-worker? Classmate? Neighbor? Whoever it is, I encourage you to be the someone in their life that takes their name to heaven, so that one day their testimony might sound like yours. “I am where I am because someone prayed me all the way here.”
