PRAYER AS A WEAPON

by Michael Davis on November 17, 2023

“The first weapon with which we fight mental strongholds is prayer.”
John Mark Comer

I’ve never thought of prayer as a weapon, have you?

Prayer is conversation with God.

Prayer is intimacy with God.

Prayer is our way to connect and stay connected with God.

Prayer is a path towards peace, hope and joy.

Prayer is so many things, but a weapon… really?

If you were in a battle, it’s safe to say that you’d want to have some sort of weapon.  Not sure what your weapon of choice would be, mine would be Nunchaku … not sure why, but they look pretty cool.  Regardless of your weapon of choice, you’d want some sort of weapon in your hands to fight with.

We are in a battle.  And the battle we are in is a daily battle.

Scripture makes clear that the battle we are in is not just a physical battle but a spiritual one – see Ephesians 6:12. After the Apostle Paul gives a list of weapons for the spiritual battle we are in, he mentions one final weapon… prayer.

“Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.”  Ephesians 6:15

We don’t always know when the attack will come or even where it will come from, but the weapon of prayer keeps us awake, alert and ready to respond to whatever might come our way.  And to be super clear… the battle taking place every day all day is a battle for our soul.

Resentment… anger… lust… pride… jealousy…bitterness… unforgiveness… indifference… fear… doubt… worry… anxiety.

Not the exhaustive list of things that we battle but my point is simply this - if you want to stay awake and alert to the battle for your soul – PRAY.

Pray at all times.

Pray on every occasion.

Prayer will keep you alert.

Prayer will keep you awake.

Prayer will keep our soul safe in God.
