Never Stop Praying!

by Michael Davis on April 25, 2015

As I type these words, I am sitting in a warm house with the sound of my kids playing outside.  I’ve already had two meals, went for a run while listening to music on my iPhone and had a nice warm shower.  I’m currently sitting at a nice office desk in a comfortable chair typing this post on a nice touch-screen computer.

Yet thousands of miles away a country has been devastated by an earthquake.  Countless numbers of people have died, with even more missing.  And with every one person that has either died or is still missing, that is someone’s son or daughter, brother or sister, husband or wife, friend or neighbor.  Power is out.  Water is not flowing.  Food is scarce.  Buildings and homes lie in ruins.

While dealing with all of those things (and so much more), people are dealing with the loss of loved ones.  People not only have theological questions (where was God?), but they have practical questions like ‘What’s next?’, ‘How do we recover from this?’, ‘Where will we sleep tonight?’, ‘How will we find our friend, child, son, daughter, husband, wife, etc.?’

As I type these words from the comforts of my home, I cannot begin to fathom what is happening thousands of miles away.  I cannot even begin to imagine the pain, suffering, loss, confusion, hurt and despair that is a reality for hundreds of thousands of people.  I cannot begin to imagine… well, I can’t even fathom what is happening a world away right now.

It’s in moments like this where many of us who are even capable of reading these words will be flooded with questions like ‘What can I do… how could one person like me from where I am even begin to make a difference in ALL that’s happening in Nepal right now?’  It’s a fair question for sure, but it’s often a question that leads to us doing nothing because we believe there is little one person can actually do.

But that’s not true… not even close!

In the coming days, there will be many relief organizations inviting you to support them as they send teams of people to help care for those who need it most.  If you feel compelled to go, then go.  If you feel compelled to give then give and give generously.  Yes – do your homework on who your giving to, but please do not think that giving funds is the most important thing you can do.  Yes, that is helpful and needed, so please do it, but there is one thing that you can do today, tomorrow, next week and in the weeks to come.

Pray… Never Stop Praying.

I realize that there will be some who read those words and immediately think ‘That sounds great, but seriously, what impact will prayer have on those who are hurting, both physically and emotionally?

God is everywhere at all times… I am not.

God is all powerful… I am not.

God is all knowing… I am not.

God is love… not full of love, but is love… and I am not.

God is God… and I am not.

So when I am praying to the God who is ever present, all powerful, all knowing and completely loving… He can and will do what we cannot do, namely, be ever present, all powerful, all knowing, and completely loving to those who need Him most right now!

So when you pray, pray in complete confidence that God will be God.  That God will do what man is incapable of doing.  Pray that God will heal, rescue, redeem and restore.  Pray that God would raise up an army of Christians who are already in the impacted areas to be the hands and feet of Jesus to those who are suffering.

Prayer is not nothing, it’s everything!

Prayer is not a small thing, it’s the greatest thing!

So please… please join me in praying for Nepal.  Join me in praying that God would do what only God could do in a situation as horrific as this.  And as we all know, sadly, what’s happening in Nepal will not be in the news in a few weeks time.  Regardless of this sad reality, do not stop praying… Never Stop Praying!
