“We cannot stop a bad habit. We can only replace it with a good one.”
– Jonathan Pokluda –
I’m not sure there’s a better passage in all of Scripture that encapsulates so well what my journey with God has looked like than the Apostle Paul’s words in Romans 7…
“I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate.”
Romans 7:15 (NLT)
Really? This is the one verse, Michael that paints an accurate picture of your journey with God? Well… yes. But here’s the thing… this one verse gives me GREAT hope. I find great solace in knowing that these words, inspired by the Holy Spirit, were penned by the Apostle Paul. The Apostle Paul wrote… ‘I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it.’ The one who was the greatest champion of Christ and Christianity in the 1st century penned those words. Wow… I’m so thankful that Paul gave us an honest glimpse into his walk with God. I’m thankful he allowed us to see the reality of walking with God in a sin-stained world will not be easy. And maybe more than anything, I’m thankful that Paul reminds us that we don’t need to pretend that walking with God will be easy.
As I sit with Romans 7, the LORD encouraged me with this...
IF YOU’RE NOT WILLING TO GET HONEST AS TO WHERE YOU ARE WITH GOD… YOU’LL MISS ALL THAT GOD HAS FOR YOU AND WANTS TO ACCOMPLISH THROUGH YOU.
Let's get honest together so that together we might encounter and experience ALL that God has for us and wants to accomplish through us!
