JUST SHOW UP… so simple, yet so powerful.
As I reflect on all that was 2023, I’ve been asking myself a rather simple question… “Did I show up?” In other words, when God invited, did I show up? Whether it had to do with obedience, or repentance, or prayer, or time, or giving… whatever the invitation was, did I show up?
In short, yes… and no.
God is an invitational God. Each and every day, God invites you and I into His presence and His purposes. God will not force us into His presence and purposes, He simply invites.
In looking back on all that was 2023, there were many invitations from the LORD that I missed. And when I say ‘missed’, I really mean to say 'ignored.’ Of course, there was always a reason (or should I say excuse?) as to why I ignored His invitation. Too tired, too busy, to ‘not feeling it,’ or simply ‘I just don’t want to.’
There’s a consequence to not showing up when God invites… the biggest one of course being missing God. But herein lies the beauty of just showing up when God invites… you get to see God.
My highlight reel from 2023 involves those JUST SHOW UP moments. they were the moments where I said ‘yes’ to stopping what I was doing in order to enter into what He was doing. And to be honest, they were very simple moments like… praying, sending an encouraging note, apologizing, or planting a gospel seed.
For far too long, the narrative that I bought into was that if I was going to see God move in and through my life it was going to require a lot of work, hustle and some heroic risk-taking. Well, to be honest… that narrative often left me and those closest to me tired, stressed and exhausted.
The more I sit with God in His Word, the more convinced I am that He simply just wants us to show up when He invites and the beauty of it all… God NEVER tires of inviting us into His presence and purposes.
