The Bible SPEAKS.
In other words, when you spend time in God’s Word, you are positioning yourself to hear God’s voice. Consider Hebrews 4…
“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”
Hebrews 4:12 (NLT)
I share that one verse with you to continue my encouragement towards journaling ALL that God is talking to you about.
As we continue in this devotional series entitled…
‘I wrote it in my journal like this…’ - I wanted to share another journal entry from earlier this week.
To be super clear with this, I did not hear the audible voice of God, but when I read Psalm 55 this past Monday, here’s the question the LORD confronted me with…
AM I KEEPING SOMETHING HE’S WANTING ME TO GIVE TO HIM?
I won’t share with you how I answered that question (sorry) because after all, not everything in your journal needs to be shared :).
But I will share this, in sitting with that question, there were more than a few things that I’ve been holding unto… things that are not from the LORD for me to be carrying.
Here’s what the Psalmist wrote…
“Give your burdens to the LORD, and he will take care of you.”
Psalm 55:22 (NLT)
A very simple command coupled with a powerful promise. The LORD gets our burdens, and we get His care for us.
WOW!
What a trade we’re commanded to participate in!
And not to be missed… ‘burdens’ is plural. In other words, whether you’re currently carrying three burdens or thirty burdens, the LORD calls us to give Him ALL of our burdens. No explanation needed as to why we were even carrying them in the first place… just an invitation from a gracious Father to give to Him that which is a weight He does not want us to carry one minute longer.
So, let me ask you this…
Can you even envision living life in such a way where you were not carrying any burdens whatsoever?
This is not to say that you don’t care about anything anymore… not at all.
Rather, what Psalm 55:22 helps you and me see is that we don’t need to live a moment longer carrying the concerns that are crushing us.
I’m not sure what burdens you might be carrying right now, but like I did this past Monday, take a moment to write those burdens out and then one by one in prayer, give each of them to the LORD.
AND DON’T FORGET THIS…
Stick around long enough in prayer to receive the care the LORD promises to give with each burden you give to Him.
By no means have I arrived with this, but two days after encountering the command of Psalm 55:22, I’m walking a bit lighter… and I’d love for you to experience that as well!
