Not sure if you currently feel ‘hurried’, but I’m guessing ‘yes.’
We live in a hurried world. Meaning, everything that needs to get done needs to get done sooner than we can get it done. And on top of that, the list of things that need to get done, well, that list seems to keep growing and growing.
As you might imagine, living a ‘hurried’ life leads to an exhausted life… and if you’re at all feeling exhausted right now as you read this devotional because you’ve been running at a hurried pace for some time now, well, I’m super thankful that you’ve slowed down long enough to even read these words.
As you keep reading, please know that I just prayed for you… very specifically that as you read, you’ll be encouraged with a type of hurry that leads to life, joy, and fulfilment.
We all know that there is a hurry that just sucks the life out of you. Whether at work, at school, or home… there is a type of hurry rooted in demands and deadlines. Not suggesting we ignore our responsibilities… not at all. Rather, I want to draw your attention to a godly type of a hurry… a hurry that will breathe life into any and every weary soul.
As we return to our JOURNALING SERIES, I want to share a Psalm with you that reminded me of something I often and easily forget.
“I will hurry, without delay, to obey your commands.”
Psalm 119:60 (NLT)
Not sure what your first thoughts were after reading that one verse, but for me, my first thought, really, more of a question was…
“Have I ever HURRIED to be obedient to God?”
I want to be obedient to the LORD because I know the way of God is ALWAYS the best way to walk, but there is still a big part of me that wants to try my way first. There’s still part of me that desires to do what I want to do before I am obedient to do what I know the LORD wants me to do.
Point being, I could not say in good conscience that I’ve historically been the guy that has ‘hurried to be obedient to God.’ But after reading this Psalm, here’s the note I wrote in my journal so as not to forget what the LORD was seeking to get my attention on…
HURRY TOWARDS LIFE
Here’s what I know about obedience...
It’s good for my heart and soul.
It’s good for my mental, emotional, and physical health.
It’s good for my relationships… with my wife, my kids, my co-workers, with all of you.
It’s good for my relationship with God.
In short, obedience is life that is true life, thus:
HURRY TOWARDS LIFE
Maybe your prayer upon reading this might simply be:
“Lord, what are you calling me to be obedient to you in right now?”
However, the LORD answers that question…
HURRY TO DO EXACTLY THAT.
Super grateful to be learning and growing with you all! And if there’s anything I can be doing to help you ‘hurry towards obedience’, just let me know.
