14 years… wow! Happy 14 years, GENESIS!
Whether you’ve been part of GENESIS since day #1 or you just started spending time with GENESIS in recent weeks, THANK YOU!
Without you, GENESIS is not the community it is. In all reality, without each of you, GENESIS is nothing more than the name of 80’s rock band that made some really good music (thank you, Phil Collins).
Seriously and sincerely… thank you! Thank you for loving, serving, giving, supporting, and doing all that you can to help as many as you can walk with God. There are certainly a lot more people we will be privileged to help walk with God in the days ahead, but for today, thank you for doing all you can to help those around you walk with God!
As I’ve been reflecting a lot over the past few weeks on our 14th anniversary, many thoughts, feelings, emotions, and lessons learned flooded my heart and head. I can’t possibly give voice to all of them, but I will give voice to the one thing that God freshly reminded me of this past week. And yes, I did write this one in my journal…
DO NOT PRESUME UPON GOD WHAT YOU THINK HE SHOULD BE DOING
As I look back over 14 years, there have been many times when I found myself either frustrated or confused (or both) as to why God was not moving or acting or providing in the ways that I thought He should be. And as you might surmise, those seasons were the seasons where I was battling discouragement and discontentment the most.
To be clear, it is NOT wrong to presume upon God for the promises that God has made… and He has made many promises to His people. But to presume upon the ‘what’ and ‘when’ and 'where' of God's promises… well, not a good idea.
As we turn the corner into our 15th year of being a church, now a multi-congregational church, I wanted to encourage you with what God has been encouraging me with…
ENJOY AND ENTER INTO THE WORK I’M DOING IN THIS SEASON OF TIME
Rather than presume upon God what we think He should be doing in our church, our homes, our neighborhoods, our places of work, our schools, etc., let’s simply ENJOY and ENTER into the work He is doing. And if you can’t see what that work is, simply ask. Let your prayer be...
"LORD, open my eyes to see what I cannot see... open my eyes to your work so that I do not miss your activity in and around my life."
Not a magic prayer but it is a prayer that the LORD loves to answer because He is always working.
I'm not sure of ALL that God will have for us in the coming days, but let’s ENJOY and ENTER into that work together with open hands and open hearts trusting that God will continue to do immeasurably more.
Super grateful to be on this amazing journey with you all!
