And just in case you’re curious, this countdown started 22 days to ago.
I’m not sure what the past 22 days have looked like for you (basically all of December), but I hope and pray that you’ve had some ‘God-sightings’ along the way. In other words, moments where there’s no other explanation other than God showed up and reminded you of His Presence, His Goodness and His Kindness.
As we all know, Christmas and all that goes with the ‘Christmas season’ is a mixed bag. For some, Christmas is the absolute best season whereas for others, the Christmas season is the complete opposite of the best season. What I say next, well, I don’t say this to diminish your joy if this is the most joyful of seasons and I certainly don’t say this to dismiss anyone’s pain if this is a super painful season for you, but…
CHRISTMAS IS NOT ABOUT YOU…
BUT IT’S FOR YOU!
Christmas is about Christ.
Christmas is about God fulfilling His promise to come.
Christmas is about the arrival of the Redeemer.
Christmas is MANY things, but of the MANY things that Christmas is, Christmas is most certainly NOT about you or me… it’s certainly for us, but it’s not about us. Culturally (or commercially) speaking, Christmas is ALL about us, hence, so much stress, tiredness, and feelings of being overwhelmed in the Christmas season.
For those of you who know me, you know that I absolutely LOVE Christmas. I love the decorations, the gifts (both giving and receiving), and the decorations… I love that so much I’ll say it twice. But in my more honest moments, I can easily make Christmas about me.
Will people like all the decorations?
Will people like the gifts?
Will people like… basically anything and everything that I’m doing during the Christmas season?
Wow… typing that sentence made me throw up a little in my mouth because at the heart of all of those questions is ME.
Christmas is not about me… and it’s not about you, but here’s the AMAZING GOOD NEWS…
CHRISTMAS IS FOR ME…
CHRISTMAS IS FOR YOU!
When and where we make Christmas about us, we’ll completely miss receiving what God desires to give us. And at Christmas, maybe more than any other season of the year, we are reminded afresh that what God wants to give us is Himself… His Presence.
With two days to go until Christmas morning, don’t miss it. Yes, please get done what needs to get done to make Christmas 2025 has memorable as possible for family and friends, but PLEASE don’t miss receiving what God has for you.
God wants you to be with Him.
God wants you to encounter and experience Him, namely His Hope, His Peace, His Joy, His Love.
And maybe to state the obvious, but it will be hard, if not impossible to receive ALL that God has to give you if you’re moving a million miles an hour over the next two days. Please give yourself permission to ‘stand still’ for a time with your Bible open in a posture of prayer ready to receive ALL that our Good Heavenly Father wants to give you.
