DAY #17 | 2026

by Michael Davis on January 17, 2026

Asking for help… I’m not a fan of having to do that.  Whether it’s a big thing, a small thing or something in-between, I’m not a fan of asking others to help me.  I could be wrong, but I’m 99.9% positive that this is not just a guy thing, rather, I think it’s a human thing.

Generally speaking, we want to be able to do whatever we need to do without having to ask others to help us do it.  Call it pride.  Call it insecurity.  Maybe it’s a combination of both?  Either way, failure to ask for help in getting a project done around your home, or at work or at school is one thing, but failing to ask for help from the LORD, well, in one word… DISASTROUS.

Of the many things that prayer is, it’s a reminder that we are a dependent people.  We might not like to admit it, but prayer has a way of reminding us just how dependent we are.  Prayer involves many things… praise, adoration, and thanksgiving just to name a few.  But of the many things that prayer is, prayer is ultimately a cry for help.

Prayer is an admission to God that we need God to intervene, or provide, or lead, or protect.  In prayer, we acknowledge to God that we believe that He can do what we are unable to do.  And just so you know, this is a good thing!

Consider what Jesus said…
“I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself.”
John 15:19 (NLT)

Imagine that, Jesus, God in flesh confessing that He could do nothing on His own apart from the His Heavenly Father.  According to the gospel authors, Jesus established a rhythm of spending much time apart from the crowds in quiet places of prayer.  Point being, if prayer is an admission of dependence, well, in prayer, Jesus not only exemplifies His dependance upon the Father, but in prayer, Jesus receives what He needs to minister to the masses.

Prayer is not just an admission of dependence… it is and that’s a good thing.

But in prayer, dependent people receive exactly what dependent people need to navigate the many things that will come our way each and every day.

So, as you begin Day #17 in a place of prayer, embrace your dependence on God while also sticking around long enough to receive from Him the power you need to walk out His will for you this day.
