Is this really it?
You climb the ladder, and it's shorter than you thought.
You get the relationship, the house, the promotion, the applause — and something still feels... unfinished.
You do everything right and still lie awake at 2am wondering if any of it actually matters.
You watch someone you love walk through something no one deserves, and you can't make sense of it.
You do the right thing and it costs you, while someone else cuts corners and comes out ahead.
You pray, and pray, and pray — and the silence on the other end feels louder than the prayer itself.
You're not alone.
And you're not crazy.
A guy named Solomon asked the exact same questions about three thousand years ago — and he had more reason than any of us to feel satisfied.
He had wealth beyond measure.
His wisdom was beyond anyone in his generation.
And he had pleasure without limits.
And after all of it, he looked around and said this…
"Everything is meaningless," says the Teacher, "completely meaningless!"
Ecclesiastes 1:2 (NLT)
I've never seen that verse on any T-shirt or coffee mug!
But to be honest, this is what I LOVE about Ecclesiastes…
It doesn't shrink back…
It doesn't rush to canned or simplistic answers…
It embraces the tension…
And it asks the questions we're often too afraid — or too "spiritual" — to ask out loud.
Questions like…
What's the point of working so hard?
Why do good people suffer while bad people prosper?
Does any of what we do in life actually matter?
Maybe you've been taught along the way that asking those types of questions was off limits?
Whereas some of you may have heard someone tell you that doubt is dangerous and that wrestling with 'everything under the sun' is a sign of weakness.
Well, Ecclesiastes pushes back on that HARD!
For me, here's what I've found to be true…
GOD MEETS ME WHEN I GET HONEST.
In other words, when we stop feeling as if we have to perform for God and we start admitting where we're really at… what we're really battling, well, it's in that place where God tends to show up.
And to be clear… not always with an explanation, but something even better – HIMSELF!
With just enough grace…
With just enough presence…
With just enough peace…
With just enough to take one more step with Him.
MEANINGFUL MEANINGLESSNESS – this is what we're calling our journey through Ecclesiastes.
King Solomon says everything "under the sun" is fleeting, like chasing the wind. And he's right. But the meaninglessness he's describing isn't the end of the story — it's what points us towards a BETTER STORY.
Here's my invitation for you as we begin this series together… don't come to this series looking for Solomon to hand you a bow to tie around life's hardest questions.
Come ready to wrestle.
Come ready to sit in the tension a little longer than feels comfortable.
Come ready to ask the questions you've kept locked away.
Come ready to let God be big enough for your doubt.
And here's WHY… I believe that's exactly where God meets us — not to erase the questions, but to walk with us in them.
Meaninglessness?
Solomon says so.
But meaningful?
That's what we're going to DISCOVER together!
