One of our rhythms at GENESIS is Extravagant Generosity. Just as Jesus gave extravagantly by giving up His life to save ours, we as a community want to model that same extravagant generosity to our neighbors in Woburn.
This Christmas season we have a TWO amazing opportunities to model that generosity for the Woburn Community.
Give Away Christmas is a partnership between GENESIS and the Woburn Public Schools to bless families in Woburn who are unable to provide a Christmas celebration for their families. Last year we gave away Christmas to 25 families in Woburn, and GENESIS North Shore supported 14 families. This year we seek to provide Christmas to 35 families in Woburn, many of whom are in homeless situations.
How does it work? The Woburn Public Schools will identify families and the needs for the children (such as clothing and a wish list gift items). Then we, the GENESIS Community, will provide the specific gifts, gift cards, and grocery cards, along with the wrapping to enable families to give gifts and enjoy a special meal.
Starting on December 4th we will have a “GIVEAWAY CHRISTMAS” wall in the Open Space where you can pick a card for a child that will specify gifts, articles of clothing, or gift cards that are needed for each family. There will be well over a hundred cards, so take as many as you are led to take! If your TEAM, GROUP, or family want to support an entire family, that would be awesome. Reach out to Lori ( ) in advance to match your GROUP or TEAM to an entire family.
Last year, this had a huge impact on the Woburn community! But as the needs have increased this year, we also want to grow in generosity towards those in need.
THE DWELLING PLACE
The Dwelling Place in Woburn is a soup kitchen that provides meals to those in need. They are open three evenings a week and provide about 40 meals each evening. We are looking to cover the last Wednesday every other month starting in Jan. To do this, we need about 6 teams of 6-8 people. Each team needs to provide the food and serve the food at the Dwelling Place from 5:00 to 6:30. The Dwelling Place operates out of the United Methodist Church in downtown Woburn.
There will be opportunities to meet and build relationships with those you are serving. This is a great opportunity to be out in our community loving our neighbors and serving those in need. If you would like to lead a team, join a team, or just want some more details about this, please contact Jason at .
