Is there one person in your life right now who you’d love to see walk with God? Is there a person you want to see encounter and experience the unconditional love and kindness of God? Can you imagine what it would be like for that person to decide to make their life about following Jesus into the adventure He has for them instead of living for themselves? Maybe this ‘one’ is a coworker, classmate, neighbor, roommate, spouse or family member. Who is your ‘ONE’?

I was once somebody’s ‘one.’ Actually, I was a ‘one’ for multiple people. There were many who wanted to see me walk with God on the path He had for me, and they did whatever they could to help that become a reality. I now know that that is what happens when you identify one person you want to help know God – you become willing to do whatever it takes to reach them.

Imagine if there were 750 people who were just as committed to reaching your ‘one’ as you were. How would that make you feel? Personally, I would be overwhelmed with gratitude that so many people were committed to doing whatever it takes to help them see, feel, encounter and experience the love of God. What an awesome thought!

Guess what? It is totally possible for that many people to be a part of your ‘one’s’ story. ‘But how?’ you ask. In a word: Church.

I’m guessing that word conjures up all kinds of different emotions for you. But when you hear it do you think to yourself, “That is the community that is as committed to reaching my ‘one’ as I am!”? If not, why not?

Jesus made clear what His heart for the Church was in Luke 19:10.

“For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”

The motivation for everything that Jesus did was to see those far from God come to God. In the end, He gave His life to make this possible. Jesus cared about every ‘ONE’. Thus, those who follow Him (the Church) should care deeply about reaching them with the gospel. I would argue that our response should be more than simple caring - we should be willing to do whatever it takes to reach those who are far from God.

At GENESIS, serving is the primary way all people are invited to help reach the ‘ones’ that God is entrusting to our care. People who are far from God get to see what God is like by watching what we are like when we serve. Every position of service within GENESIS is designed to reflect the love of God. Whether it is in the Parking Lot, Café, GENESIS Kids, Greeting, or on the Music & Creative TEAMS, all positions demonstrate the love of God to all people.

Our average adult attendance on a Sunday morning is 750 people. Imagine what could happen if all 750 people committed themselves to serving so that together we might reach each other’s ‘ones’!
