    Passage: Genesis 5:21-24

    Notes

    1. Faith Starts With God
    2. Faith Walks With God Through Anything
    3. Faith Walks Toward What We Hope For

    Verses

    {When Enoch had lived 65 years, he fathered Methuselah. Enoch walked with God after he fathered Methuselah 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Thus all the days of Enoch were 365 years. Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him. Genesis 5:21-24 ESV}{Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.

    By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks. By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. Hebrews 11:1-6 ESV}{Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:8-9 ESV}{It was also about these that Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones, to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.” These are grumblers, malcontents,following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage. Jude 1:14 ESV}{...knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. 1 Peter 1:18-20 ESV}

    Quotes

    C.S. Lewis : The old definition of faith is “the power to believe what we know to be untrue.” But now I define faith as the power of continuing to believe what we honestly know is true until someone can change our minds through clear reasoning. (); Norman Cousins : Our age is not likely to be set apart in history for the large numbers of people who insist on finding the time to think. Plainly, this is not the Age of the Meditative Man. It is a sprinting, squinting, shoving age. Almost daily, new ways for contemplation spring into being and leap out from store counters. (); Abraham Lincoln : I can see how it might be possible for a man to look down upon the earth and be an atheist, but I cannot conceive how a man could look up into the heavens and say there is no God. (); C.S. Lewis : If we wish to be rational, not now and then, but constantly, we must pray for the gift of Faith. For the power to go on believing not in the teeth of reason, but in the teeth of lust and terror and jealousy and boredom and indifference. ();
