The Best Day Ever

by on June 24, 2016

While on a family trip to Six Flags, Hailey and I got in line to ride one of her favorite rides. And as we entered the line her excitement and anticipation was so cute and utterly contagious! She exclaimed: “Dad! This is the best day ever!” which of course filled my heart with joy. But, as we neared the front of the line, I noticed that the young woman attending the ride was not so equally pleased.

As we got closer, I asked the young woman how she was doing and was struck by her response. She looked me right in the eyes and said: “Ugh, this is the worst day ever!” And it was then that it hit me. I was standing right in the middle of two girls who were having wildly different experiences. One was overjoyed, believing it to be the best day ever. The other was joy-starved, believing it was the worst day ever! How could their perspectives be so different?

The Lord convicted me that I often approach Him like the young attendant in front of me. Instead of eagerly coming into His presence and joyfully expecting to receive something awesome from Him, I sometimes live like I cannot wait to get on with the things I want to do. This showed me that my perspective will often dictate my enjoyment of God.

When I set my mind on how incredible it is to walk with Jesus, my joy will increase. When I ponder over how amazing it is to be in relationship with God, my life will be filled with wonder. But when I treat my walk with God like it is just another line in an overcrowded schedule, my joy will actually decrease! My faith will become mundane. I will not experience the wonder of walking with God.

Today, do you truly believe that it can be the best day ever with God?
