Thank You Mom!

by Michael Davis on May 09, 2014

My mom told me many things over the years, but I don’t remember so much what she told me – no, what I remember is what she showed me.  And my mom – well, she showed me a lot.

  • My mom showed me Jesus by the way she lives her life for Jesus every day.
  • My mom showed me grace by being gracious to me – to my brother and three sisters.
  • My mom showed me unconditional love in the way she continues to love my dad.
  • My mom showed me how to sacrificially love people by sacrificially loving those both near and far in the most practical and tangible ways.
  • My mom showed me the value in reading the Bible everyday and allowing the Bible to read me.
  • My mom showed me what it looks like to ‘Never stop praying’ by praying me all the way back to God.
  • My mom showed me how to be generous with everything God has entrusted to me.
  • My mom showed me that Christ-like character is the most important character I can have.
  • My mom showed me how to put the needs of others before my own.
  • My mom showed me how to be a servant who serves regardless of the cost.
  • My mom showed me that it’s ok to fail and fall down because God’s grace is big enough to get me back up and keep me going.
  • My mom showed me that the most important attribute that I could look for in a wife is a woman who loves the Lord with all her heart – because of this I asked Kyla to walk with me and she said yes.
  • My mom showed me that dogs are much better than cats – thank you mom!
  • My mom showed me that all people matter to God – therefore they should matter to me.
  • My mom showed me that family is not a good thing to have or be part of, but that family is a gift from God not to be ignored or neglected.
  • My mom showed me that doing what God wants is always better than doing what I want.

My mom has shown me many things – this is the short list – but more than anything, my mom knows the importance of not just telling me about these things, but showing me these things in the way she lives her life.

If you are a mom – please remember that your kids will hear a lot of what you say, but they will remember and be impacted most by what you show them.

If you’ve yet to tell your mom thanks for all that she has shown you – please take time this Mother’s Day to thank her for all she showed you over the years.

A happy Mother’s Day to ALL moms – new moms – young moms – older moms… thank you for showing those that God has entrusted to your care all that you do!

And to my mom… I still have a LONG way to go, but thank you – thank you for continually showing me what a life pleasing to God looks like!
