Thank You Louise

by Michael Davis on April 01, 2015

I don’t know Louise.  In fact, I’ve never met her and it’s a good chance I never will.  But despite never meeting Louise, she has had a profound impact on my family.

This is a story that goes something like this… “Louise knows some people who know some people who know me.”  A few degrees of separation if you will.  Even though there are a few degrees of separation, being faithful has a way of transcending those degrees.

Louise had a role to play and because she was faithful to play her role, her impact is still being felt by someone she does not even know.  Unknown to Louise, there were a few kids watching her example of faithfulness played out in the lives of their parents.  Her example of faithfulness painted a picture for these young kids as to what it means to be faithful to the role that God calls you to play.

These young kids are now grown up with kids of their own.  They’ve not forgotten Louise, nor the picture of faithfulness she painted for them, and because of this, my family is on the receiving end of their faithfulness.

Louise had a role to play… she played it well.

These kids, now grown up have a role to play… they are playing it well.

You… yes you have a role to play.  The question is just whether or not you are being faithful to play that role well.

1 Peter 4:10 – Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

God has graciously given to ALL of us gifts.  These gifts vary from person to person, but nonetheless, God has given to ALL gifts that we are to be using to serve those around us.  Time, hospitality, discernment, finances, leadership, organization, skills, talents… and the list of God’s varying gifts could go on and on.

Simply put, God has given gifts to ALL so that we can use what He’s graciously given to us to bless, encourage and remind those around us that God is real… that God cares… and that God is faithful.

Far too many times we get frustrated over the gifts we don’t have rather than thanking God for the gifts He’s graciously given us.  And when our focus is on what we don’t have, it’s difficult if not impossible to be faithful to what God has actually entrusted to us.

Stewardship.

This word is not used often in our culture, but yet stewardship is of utmost importance to God.  God has not given us gifts, whatever they may be so that we can neglect them, ignore them or even complain about them.  God has graciously given to ALL so that ALL can use what God has given them to either help those who don’t know God, come to know Him, or encourage those that do know Him to remember that He cares.

Whatever God has given you – be a faithful steward of those gifts.  And never forget that your faithfulness to what God has given you… to what God has entrusted into your care will be used by God to not only impact those around you today, but even those you’ll never get to meet face to face tomorrow.

Thank you Louise for being a faithful steward, the Davis family is grateful!
