Our Mission

by Michael Davis on September 25, 2014

GENESIS is committed to being a community after God’s own heart – doing ALL that He would want us to do.  This is our mission – what we are committed to doing day in and day out regardless of the cost or consequence.  If that is consistent with your mission, what you are committed to doing with the life God has given you, then we invite you to walk with us trusting that God will enable and empower us to accomplish this mission together.

Years ago, we came up with three foundational words – words that keep us moving towards accomplishing ALL that God would want us to do, both individually and as a community.

begin.  belong.  believe.

Three simple words, but these words have great meaning for the GENESIS Community.  These words encapsulate ALL that we have committed ourselves to doing – they represent with clarity and conviction our mission.

If they are so important to who we are as a community, then what do they mean?  Or, how do we understand and apply these three foundational words to the life of the GENESIS Community?

Here’s what we mean when we say begin…

We are committed to helping ALL people find their way back to God!

We believe that we were created by God to walk with and enjoy God, both now and for eternity.  When Adam & Eve chose to rebel against the plans and purposes of God, they hid – and consequently, humanity has been hiding from God ever sense.  The reasons for hiding will vary from person to person, but generally speaking, when people hide from God, it is because they are choosing to believe things about God that are just not true.

At GENESIS, we are committed to helping ALL people find their way back to God, which means helping people to understand the truth of who God is, what He is like, and how far He has gone to make a relationship with Him possible.  To be clear, ‘begin’ does not just apply to those who don’t know God, but to those who’ve wondered away from God.  We believe there are many people who once walked with God, but for whatever reasons, they began walking away from God.

At GENESIS, we are committed to helping ALL people walk with God… and we are committed to helping ALL people who have wondered away from God to be ‘begin’ again.

What do we mean when we say belong?

We are committed to helping ALL people build meaningful God-honoring relationships with one another!

We are convinced that life with God is better together.  God has not called us to walk with Him in isolation, rather, He has called us to walk with Him in the context of community.

No community is perfect, which means that community can be hard, difficult and even disappointing.  Despite the challenges of community, at GENESIS, we are committed to inviting ALL people to belong – to build meaningful God-honoring relationships with one another.  We do this for two primary reasons:  our relationship with God, and our witness to the world.  In short, we need one another to help one another walk with God.  And for those that don’t know God, the way they will see the love of God most clearly is the way we love one another.

Community Groups and Serving – these are the two primary vehicles where we see meaningful God-honoring relationships taking place. Clearly, it’s not the only place, but in order to experience ‘belong’, we invite ALL people towards being part of a Community Group and serving.

What do we mean when we say believe?

We are committed to helping ALL people experience Gospel transformation!

"God became man to turn creatures into sons: not simply to produce better men of the old kind but to produce a new kind of man.  It is not like teaching a horse to jump better and better but like turning a horse into a winged creature.” C.S. Lewis

Because of Jesus – His life, death, and resurrection, we are not called to be better versions of our old self, rather, we have been set free to live as sons and daughters of our Great King.  In short, we believe in Jesus and all He did compels us to live our lives no longer for ourselves, but for the One who gave everything for us.

These might be three simple words, but they have great meaning to helping GENESIS understand her mission.  If these three words are consistent with your mission – what you are committed to doing with the life God’s given you, then let’s walk together.  Let’s encourage, support and inspire one another towards trusting God for even greater things.  It will be a blessing to be on this journey with you!
