Ever Be

by on June 03, 2016

Each week I count it a pure JOY to lead GENESIS in worship. It’s my absolute favorite part of the week. To be in a room together for the ONE purpose of getting closer to God and bringing Him our collective praise. This Sunday, we’re singing a song that has spoken to me that I’d love to invite you to listen to prior to being together.

The song is called “Ever Be” by Bethel Music. You can listen to it here.

This song is a beautifully simple way to praise God for who He is and what He’s done. The chorus of the song simply says:

Your praise will ever be on my lips, ever be on my lips…

The rest of the song is built around these simple, yet powerful words and the question, 'Why is it that God is worthy of such praise?'

See the verses below:

Your love is devoted, like a ring of solid gold

Like a vow that is tested, like a covenant of old

And Your love is enduring, through the winter rain

And beyond the horizon, with mercy for today

Faithful You have been, and faithful You will be

You pledge Yourself to me, and it's why I sing…

You father the orphan, Your kindness makes us whole

And you shoulder our weakness, and Your strength becomes our own

Now You're making me like You, clothing me in white

Bringing beauty from ashes, for You will have Your bride

Free of all her guilt, and rid of all her shame

And known by her true name, and it's why I sing.

A ring in marriage symbolizes an unending love for another because it’s an unbroken circle; it goes on and on. This is the same with God’s love for us. God’s vow, His promise to us - that He would remain faithful even when we aren’t - has been kept! Through Jesus, God has proven His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died…[Romans 5:8]

And no matter what we are going through, no matter where we’ve been or what we’ve done, God is there. Through the winter rain, far into the future where we cannot yet see, He is there. And He is with right where we are right now. His mercy is ENOUGH for you today.

The more we encounter God, the more we lean into His love, we find that we are changed. He picks up our weakness and in return gives us His strength. He strips us of our emptiness and makes us whole. When we accept Jesus as the sacrifice on our behalf, God looks at us and sees us free of all our guilt, rid of all our shame, and known by our true names… sons and daughters. And that’s a reason to sing…

Your praise will EVER BE on my lips.
