Doubting Doubts

by on February 13, 2018

My doubts cannot be trusted. They rise up from within me, not when I am sober-minded and focused on truth, but usually when I am in a bad place. They are the ramblings of an unsettled and discontented heart that is usually focused on self. Maybe it is time I started doubting my doubts?

I mean let’s be honest, our doubts come after us, offering half-truths, which really just means cleverly packaged lies. They tell us how depraved we are, lost we are, broken we are, sinful we are, shameful we are, guilty we are, and all of those things are true! We are sinful. We are depraved. But that is not the whole story! That is the story I used to live before I knew Jesus. Now, I have got to doubt my doubts when the story ends with me.

Despite what I am feeling and no matter how real those feelings may feel, I have to begin doubting my doubts! I need to begin speaking truth over my life that tells the whole story. Instead of allowing the chatterbox to drone on and on endlessly in my head, I have to start doubting my doubts. I must get out of the echo chamber of unmet expectations, depressed feelings, anxieties and insecurities and I must cling to the truth that God’s Word has told me. For instance

I am not alone; God is with me!

I am not insignificant; He came and sought me!

I am not abandoned; I am His child!

I am not dirty; I have been made clean!

I am not broken; He has made me whole!

I am not a disappointment; He loves me!

I am no longer blind; My eyes have been opened!

I am not weak; I am strong in Christ!

I am not fearful; I have a sure and steady hope!

I am not lost; when I seek Him I will find Him!

I am not in want; I have all I need in Him!

One of my favorite songs says this so well:

“I Just want to shout it out for the world to hear it

That I'm His kid no matter what I'm feeling

I'm doubting doubts, I just cannot help believing

That I am loved no matter what”

CITIZENS & SAINTS

If you are truly in Christ, you are loved NO MATTER WHAT!
