Counted

One day I was out riding my bike. I love to cycle, though I haven’t gone out in some time; I alternate between that and running. I remember it was a beautiful day, and I had been cooped up inside for far too long. My family was in Florida visiting my mother-in-law, so I was left with the whole place to myself. It was really great for about an hour. After I’d turned the music on as loud as it can go, eaten the contraband of pizza and Oreo's that isn’t normally allowed in my house, and strewn my shoes and dirty clothes all over the house, I was ready for them to return.

Since it was a beautiful day, and I was missing them terribly and feeling a little down, I decided to get some fresh air and take off for a nice long bike ride. As I was riding through the farmlands of Hollis, NH, thinking of how much I missed my crew and feeling sorry for myself, I began to hear these words, accompanied with a melody in my head and heart:

You are loved and accepted

You are counted as Mine

By My grace I have called you

Into My love divine

You were lost but I found you

Blind, but now you see

And though you often stumble

Forever yours I will be

You are Mine…

I stopped the bike immediately and pulled out my iPhone and began to capture what I was hearing. I knew without a shadow of a doubt, that the Lord Himself had sung over me. Scripture tells this is possible:

“The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” – Zephaniah 3:17

This doesn’t happen to me all that often, so I knew the Lord was trying to tell me something. After I recorded it in my phone, I finished the bike ride then went home. I sat down at the piano and began to plunk out the melody. After a solid few hours of writing, I built some verses and a bridge around these lyrics that had become a chorus.

The name of the song is “Counted”. I called it this because I knew that God was reminding me that no matter where I am in life, no matter how down or lonely I might feel, that He was my great Father and had counted me as His own son. This amazing reminder from my Father encouraged me that day and continues to do so as I face the challenges of living in this world.

When you and I stop and think that we are beloved sons and daughters of the Creator of ALL things, the Sustainer of ALL life, the very God who gave up His own Son to call you as such, you are reminded how much you are worth to God.

I hope this song will encourage you as much as it has me and that you will be reminded how loved you are in the eyes of the Father.
