The last time GENESIS gathered for a Sunday evening worship service was 46 months ago – on Sunday, September 6, 2009 to be exact. For the past 46 months, we have been desirous to once again launch a Sunday evening service. After meeting on Sunday evenings for 32 months, it was a big switch going to Sunday mornings in the Fall of 2009.
The reason for the switch back in 2009 (from evenings to mornings) is no different than the reason for the addition of the Sunday evening gathering we begin tomorrow, Sunday, April 27th.
We believed by gathering in the AM, we’d be able to accomplish the mission entrusted to us. The change and transition was good, but it was hard. After meeting in the evenings for so long, you get used to it.
But the switch back then helped us keep the mission front and center. It’s not about our preferences (when we gather), but it’s about helping people who don’t know God BEGIN a relationship with Him. It’s about helping people who live in isolation BELONG to a community that cares for them – a community that will help them grow in understanding the greatness of our God. It’s about seeing countless men and women BELIEVE in the Gospel of Jesus and seeing the Gospel transform not only their lives, but the lives of those around them.
Begin. Belong. Believe. This is the mission.
After 46 months, we return to worshiping together on Sunday evenings at 5:30PM. Yes – we will still gather on Sunday mornings (9AM & 11AM), but we add a 3rd worship gathering because we believe it will help us to accomplish the mission – Begin. Belong. Believe.
There will be a change… a transition of sorts with the addition of something new. There will certainly be challenges along the way. I’m ok with that because I believe the stories of men and women experiencing Begin, Belong, Believe will far outweigh any challenges that come with trusting God with something new… something different.
